NASA asks Nokia to provide 4G LTE on the moon, for what?

Even though it no longer produces its own cellphones or smartphones, Nokia will still benefit from the communication technology business. This legendary company will now receive a lucrative contract but not on Earth but on the Moon.

The US space agency, known as NASA, reportedly wants to have new telecommunications for astronauts traveling on the Moon as well as with teams on Earth. NASA wants the 4G LTE technology used today to be available on the Moon.

Quoted from Engadget, NASA has even prepared a disbursement of funds for this project worth USD14.1 million or IDR 207 billion. This was announced officially on the NASA website and is said to be related to a mission called Artemis that will be carried out in 2024.

In 2024 NASA will undertake a more extensive lunar exploration mission called the Artemis mission. Nokia is included in the list of 14 companies that will receive funding and participate in this project. The name SpaceX is also included.

NASA Associate Administrator, James Reuter, said that his party wants a cellular-based telecommunication connection on the Moon which is considered more modern for communication by all parties. He wanted to see if the terrestrial or land surface telecommunications models could be applied to the Moon.

NASA has budgeted more than USD370 million to distribute to 14 companies participating in Moon exploration projects in 2024.

In 2018 Nokia also worked with cellular operator Vodafon to prepare mobile telecommunications on a German space company exploration mission to the Apollo 17 lunar landing site. However, this project has not been realized.

Sophisticated! Collaborating with Nokia, NASA Will Build 4G Network on the Moon

The US Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA , has often traveled to the moon.

Who would have thought that soon NASA would not only send humans to the moon, but would also build a 4G network from earth to the moon.

This plan was carried out by NASA in cooperation with a technology corporation, Nokia.

The United States space agency promised to disburse funds amounting to 14.1 million USD to fund this mobile phone network project.

Launching Tribunnewswiki, Nokia confirmed that it will build a network center near the south pole of the Moon.

This project will follow a previous project called Artemis which will put a man and a woman to live on the Moon by 2024.

The agenda for building a 4G network on the moon is said to support human activities there.

At the same time, NASA is also in the process of funding the development of a wireless charging system.

This method is considered to be able to charge quickly from the energy obtained from the Moon.

The project was announced via an online release by NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine on Wednesday (14/10/2020).

"We need a flow of power that can last a long time on the lunar surface, and we also need adaptations to stay on the surface," explained Bridenstine.

It is known that this project has received an injection of funds that exceeds expectations.

The total funds raised to support this program reached 370 million USD.

The 4G network will allow astronauts on the Artemis project - and perhaps someday other lunar invaders - to communicate while working on the lunar surface area.

NASA needs a little bit of pressure and encouragement to do this. The moon is a repository of data and information from early exploration of the Solar System," said Bridenstine.

Meanwhile, Jim Reuter, associate administrator for NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate , added: "This system will also extend to spacecraft.

Receiving NASA funding, technology giant Nokia plans to modify terrestrial technology for the environment on the moon in order to support reliable and high-speed communications. "

As is known, the NASA and Nokia contracts are also supported by a number of parties including SpaceX and the United Launch Alliance.

Not only building a 4G network, this company will create a new, safer method of making rocket fuel on the surface of the Moon and Mars.
