can clearly feel how many parts of the film's storyline feel quite outdated when compared to similar themed films released in recent years. Exploring the lives of homosexuals in New York City, United States, The Boys in the Band based its story on a stage play of the same title by Mart Crowley which was shown for the first time in 1968 - an era in which homosexuals were still not accepted by a wide audience. in the United States. With the theme of the story, which at that time was still considered controversial and had not been widely used for public consumption, stage playsThe Boys in the Band turned out to be able to attract a lot of attention as well as score great success during the performance period. Hollywood then tried to translate this success through a feature film adaptation directed by William Friedkin which was released in 1970.
In 2018, exactly 50 years since its debut performance, producer Ryan Murphy brought the appearance of The Boys in the Band back to the stage with direction from director Joe Mantello and a lineup of actors who came entirely from homosexuals. Also successful, Murphy then produced a second film adaptation for The Boys in the Band by bringing the entire crew and cast of his stage play The Boys in the Band . With a story script co-authored by Crowley with Ned Martel , The Boys in the Bandstill retains almost the entire narrative outline as well as the taste of the stage plays. Even so, Mantello also presented a number of technical touches that made the presence of The Boys in the Band even more cinematic.

The storyline of The Boys in the Band begins when Michael ( Jim Parsons ) together with his lover, Donald ( Matt Bomer ), and his friends, Larry ( Andrew Rannells ), Emory ( Robin de Jesús ), Bernard ( Michael Benjamin Washington ), and Hank ( Tuc Watkins ) gathers in her apartment to celebrate Harold ( Zachary Quinto's ) birthday . The celebration that should have been familiar and festive began to fall apart after Michael received a call from one of his classmates, Alan McCarthy ( Brian Hutchison), who said that he was going to visit Michael's apartment. Not that Michael was unhappy with Alan McCarthy's arrival. However, the party he held with his homosexual friends was certainly not an appropriate event for heterosexual Alan McCarthy to visit. Just right. Alan McCarthy started showing his homophobic attitude after becoming acquainted with Michael's friends. Michael's panic intensified when Harold did not come to his birthday party himself.

With a storyline that focuses entirely on the interactions that are created between the lines of characters present in the film's storytelling timeline, The Boys in the Bandclearly requires a story line and dialogue that is really smart and sharp at the same time. Luckily, Crowley and Martel managed to provide excellent guidance, presenting pieces of emotional stories that reflect love, anger, disappointment, guilt, and the insecurities that each character feels from other characters or their environment. Each character is also presented with a fairly intact conflict arrangement so that the presence of each character is able to give its own personality color to the storyline of the film. The composition of the drama and comedy tones in the rhythm of the film's storytelling also blend evenly which makes The Boys in the Band avoid feeling bored.

Mantello's direction of The Boys in the Band stage play clearly contributed to the setting of the film's narrative rhythm. Mantello's storytelling technique for the film version of The Boys in the Bandindeed it is not too different from the standard that has been applied to his stage plays. Camera and cinematography obediently follow the movement space of each character and the image system also cleverly controls various viewpoints that will keep each viewer paying their attention to each character whose dialogue or story is the focus of a scene. Mantello's direction has also received solid support from the appearances of the cast in his film acting department. Being in the forefront, Parsons presents a very attractive appearance as a homosexual figure who dislikes his condition so much that he reflects his dislike for the people in his environment. Another strong performance came from Quinto who was able to match and match Parsons' performance and produce satisfying acting dynamics between the two. The strength of the film, which lies in managing conflict and character, is the key to the success of The Boys in the Bandin telling stories. The story is centered on character figures and environments where the lives of homosexuals are still taboo to talk about. However, with a good work, The Boys in the Band is still very capable of being a strong reflection and often touching about the structure of social life today - even for those who are not members of the community.

REVIEW: THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE ON THE RUN
With a story script written and directed by Tim Hill - who previously served as a scriptwriter for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run presents a new adventure for SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and his colleagues from Bikini Bottom. It is said, SpongeBob SquarePants ( Tom Kenny ) along with Patrick Star ( Bill Fagerbakke ) travel to Lost City of Atlantic City to save Gary the Snail (also voiced by Kenny) who has been kidnapped by King Poseidon ( Matt Berry)). Definitely not an easy adventure. Apart from having to prepare to face King Poseidon and his troops, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star also have to face various other challenges on their way to Lost City of Atlantic City. Luckily, the two friends then received guidance from Sage ( Keanu Reeves ) and their colleagues from Bikini Bottom, Sandy Cheeks ( Carolyn Lawrence ), Squidward Tentacles ( Rodger Bumpass ), Mr. Krabs ( Clancy Brown ), and Plankton ( Mr. Lawrence ), who immediately caught up with SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star after learning that the two were in trouble.
When compared to its two predecessors, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (Paul Tibbitt, Mike Mitchell, 2015), The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has a more dynamic storyline. Even though the narrative plot feels like a combination of the previous two films' plot, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run flows fairly surely in navigating the adventures faced by the two main characters. Of course, there are various storytelling touches that are familiar to fans of the television series and the SpongeBob SquarePants film series such as "mature" jokes, satires about popular culture, as well as brief appearances of some of Hollywood's famous faces still adorn the scenes of this film. At the same time, the storyline that feels too conventional for a presentation that deals with the SpongeBob SquarePants storytelling universe makes The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run feel pretty tedious.
The character of King Poseidon, who is the "antagonist" in this film, is depicted in an unattractive way. Likewise with the plot about the Plankton character who (still) tries to steal and get the Krabby Patty secret formula which suddenly disappears after being introduced at the beginning of the film's story. Some jokes are still able to provide entertainment and provoke smiles, but the jokes made by Hill for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Runmore appear with mediocre quality. Like the series of plots and jokes he presents in the film script, Hill's storyline often feels random. Appearing rushed in some parts, comes with musical performances that are not worked out well in other parts, as well as wordy delivery in a number of story plots.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is definitely the weakest film in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie series . Even so, the characters who are still voiced by their original voice actors will still be able to give their own charm. A plot that brings back memories of the moments of each character's first meeting in the successful SpongeBob SquarePants series is warmly presented. Brief performances by Reeves, Danny Trejo , Snoop Dogg and sound support from Awkwafina , Tiffany Haddish , and Reggie Wattsis also a nice color addition to the presentation of the entire film. Hill's decision to present The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in a computer animation system as a whole also deserves praise for its successful execution. It doesn't disappoint though, as the third film in a film series, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run should have had a much more solid storyline.
