A world of fantasy and humor that gets better in season three of DISENCHANTMENT

When watching its first season two and a half years ago, Disenchantment still seemed to have a hard time finding the tempo. The story, which still doesn't have a solid structure and jokes that don't really hit it, is its biggest drawback, especially if you remember my anticipation, which was quite high at that time, knowing that this cartoon comedy series was created by Matt Groening who is known for his cartoons The Simpsons and Futurama .

But since its second season and now that it has entered its third season, Disenchantment has become one of my favorite shows on the Netflix streaming service . From its duration which is only under 30 minutes, it always makes this a light spectacle, the characters who have started to feel their influence for the continuity of the story, to the comedy which still has the same fast pacing as before and is more catchy, where every second in the episode has a joke. which is unique and also funny.

The third season immediately continues from the end of the second season, where Bean (Abbi Jacobson) with Elfo (Nat Faxon) and Luci (Eric Andre) are preparing to be executed by burning because they are thought to have planned the murder of his father, King Zøg (John DiMaggio) and also was considered a witch, which of course at that time everything that was considered a witch would be burned alive. While being burned, they fall down and touch a catacomb and meet Bean's mother, Dagmar (Sharon Horgan), who becomes an important figure in the third season. Now, Bean and his friends begin to make plans to return to Dreamland and save his father who was injured before.

The narrative that Disenchantment has does seem messy, where the main story usually merges with various other stories that can go straight in and out in each episode. Come to think of it, what's the main story of Disenchantment ? Each episode can present an adventure that is new and different from the previous one, and of course, has an impact on the story that can deviate from before. But actually that's what keeps me interested in always watching the next episode, because its unique plot prevents me from feeling bored. Here we see how the relationship between Bean and Mora does not feel forced and runs very naturally. The two also add to the dynamics between the characters that are interesting and rarely found here, showing the series is starting to dare to incorporate more realistic human traits into its characters, not only to act stupid and unreasonable during the third season.

Apart from how they always have a narrative that is flexible and easy to adapt to all new elements, the jokes and comedy in Disenchantment are still as funny as ever, or maybe even funny. His sarcasm still has good humor, and season three never runs out of sarcasm jokes from all the characters. It's possible that sarcasm is the main joke of the series. "You realize, you are only mine," said Dagmar to his son. "Mom, you're only mine," replied Bean. "I know you are lying, but I hope you mean it," Dagmar replied again. The jokes here are very quick, and sometimes not all of them have any impact, but there are often lots of quick and unexpected jokes that invoke laughter.

Disenchantment also pays great attention to detail in its jokes, often putting a lot of jokes in the background of each scene. Starting from the arrangement of books where each book title has its own joke or extra characters behind it that may only appear for a few seconds but also do something silly and easy to miss if the audience doesn't pay attention. That is why watching this series is always exciting because there is so much that can be revealed and found in just one scene.

Of course jokes don't work if the voice actors are not qualified to deliver the joke, and luckily all the voice actors here appear very impressive as their respective characters. From the main characters, like Bean, Luci and Elfo who can bring laughter with how they say a sentence full of sarcasm, to characters like Zøg who have lots of hilarious moments in season three or side characters like Turbish (Rich Fulcher) who always say the same thing. dumb to The Jester (Billy West), where he was always thrown from the castle to the sea and always said "Oh, no" at every exile, where he said those two words always made me laugh at every opportunity to see him.

The visuals of the third season are also still very beautiful, or maybe even more stunning than before. During the current season, we are treated to views of the city-themed steampunk Steamland filled with light, we go through a dungeon filled with mushrooms that emit purple hypnotic, until reflection sea with a cloud that looks like a painting that is fascinating and a feast for the eyes when Bean passed him by ship. Its fantasy element does open up a huge opportunity to play in the visuals, and Disenchantment doesn't waste that opportunity.

After watching the third season of Disenchantment , I realized that in the end I really admired this series, which as the seasons progressed the more mature the stories and jokes it had. The 10 episodes are lacking, because I can't wait to wait for the next season and what more madness will befall Bean and his kingdom, considering how this season ends. This is one of the best cartoon series in the era of streaming services .
