JOKER MOVIE REVIEW (2019) - LAUGHING AT A JOKER-STYLE TRAGEDY ! In 1966, Cesar Romero
Who became the criminal mastermind and troublesome the caped crusader who had to work hard to crush their gang together with Robin. Even though he is thicker as a prankster , Romero is enough to be the initial foundation for the appearance of the Joker on the big screen.
Meanwhile, in 1989, Jack Nicholson gave a solid performance as The King of Comedy , who is also at once a terrible psychopath with an unusual element of humor. Even Jack Nicholson made us believe that he was the chosen one to portray this quite sacred character.
It wasn't until 2008 that an actor proved that the Joker's interpretation could be much darker than before. Much more intimidating, crazy and psychopathic. Yes, Heath Ledger with a touch of Christopher Nolan's cold hand, managed to introduce us to a villain who has a story of a changing past, a villain who masterminds problems everywhere, even a villain who deserves to be chased by the bat man.

Having been the head of a mafia with green hair and a body that was scribbled like a rich businessman who owns a nightclub in 2016, the potential Jared Leto has unfortunately never been maximized in Suicide Squad . The Joker in this film is nothing more than a comedian, without contributing anything to the film. Practically, the interpretation of the Joker that has been solidified by Ledger must be leto freefall.
Now, in an era where dark themes are becoming a new trend. And exploration of a character's psyche becomes the main food, the Joker then reappears in an alternate timeline in a universe that connects it to various crime events in Gotham City and of course with Wayne's lineage.

“All i have are negative thoughts.” - Arthur Fleck
This time, the Joker played by Joaquin Phoenix, where the story stands alone without Batman's interference, but Wayne's intervention is still there, of course, it must be admitted that this time it is more aimed at exploring his psychological side than the supervillain 's origin story . More than that, Todd Phillips also included his anxiety in the current social conditions, which still revolve around the conflict between the rich against the poor and the weak against the strong.
That is why this film puts forward the figure of Arthur Fleck himself, not The Joker as we know it. The Joker in this film, is just a kind of interpretation of the comedian's tragedy and failure in facing his life, fighting the injustices he received, so that he doesn't have the opportunity to think positively, let alone entertain himself and others.

But at least, he could still laugh.
In short, Joker is a film about mental illness that hides behind the world's most popular psycho villain. Just like Nolan who worked on a political film with elements of Batman which was later included in it.
But now I realize, it's a comedy. ”- Arthur Fleck
What deserves appreciation from director Todd Phillips ( Hangover trilogy, Starsky & Hutch ) and screenwriter Scott Silver ( The Fighter, The Finest Hour ) is how they were then able to combine elements of modern comics and the Joker into a solid unity.

Some of the stories in The Killing Joke comic that became the initial material for the formation of Arthur Fleck's character, then combined with the psychopathic Joker figure, who had previously been brought to life by the late Heath Ledger. Making Phoenix's Joker a new figure that we have never seen before.
His change from being an oppressed person to then being able to vent his anger related to the tragedy of his life in a sickening burst of laughter, is actually able to appear in steps that make us believe. Both Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck, Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne to Robert de Niro as Murray Franklin, seem solid as a source of reasons for the change in Arthur's figure. Yes, at least that's what Arthur and his delusions believed.

Robert de Niro as a comedian king who is famous throughout the public through his variety shows, is like the opposite of the figure of the Joker, the king of comedy himself. If the Joker considers his whole life and actions to be comedy, then Murray, played by de Niro, appears to be the interpretation of many people who are happy above the suffering of others.
He did not hesitate to make jokes from someone who looked "appropriate" to be made fun of by the masses, only because of his appearance without caring about the background of the story behind him. A relevant picture of social life that is happening today.
Arthur does make us empathize with the hardships of life he experienced, on tragedy after tragedy that befell him. However, Arthur did not romanticize his actions into a justification which made him appear to be an anti-hero who was later loved. Arthur was still Arthur with a madness that he himself was aware of.
Arthur may be some of the people who are oppressed by their social environment. Arthur may be some of the humans who can't speak out loud to the rulers. Arthur may be some of the humans whose instincts die because of the disappointments that befall them throughout life.
Even though he later stood like an angel for some of the people who supported him, Arthur was still the villain we all know. A villain who not only plays a role in various madness in Gotham City, but also becomes a kind of interpretation of Yin-Yang in the figure of the future caped crusader.
If Jack Nicholson turns into a psychopathic figure after being thrown into a chemical that damages his face, then Joaquin Phoenix turns into a scary figure after being thrown into a social environment that strictly separates
