The best streaming movies nominated for the Oscars 2021

The Oscars 2021 will go down in history thanks to the fact that for the first time two women were nominated in the director category, for its diverse list of nominated actors and because it is one of the editions of the ceremony with more films that were produced or will be exclusively released in streaming.

It is not a big surprise that Netflix is the most nominated studio this year, the streaming platform premiered great documentaries (such as The Topo Agent , which is the only Latin film nominated), biographical dramas and even animated children's films that received great criticism and that left their mark with interesting stories that confirm that streaming and art are not in conflict.

Films like Nomadland and Promising Young Woman (which every man should see) are expected to become the night's big winners, but among the winners we will undoubtedly find productions like Soul, Mank and Crip Camp , which will lead to streaming a a step further in the industry and the perception of critics, fans and members of the Academy on films that are produced for small screens.

2020 was a year without cinemas, the good news is that many of those that appear in the list of nominees for the Oscars 2021 can be seen from the comfort of your favorite armchair and without having to buy a ticket for a dark room.

The big surprise of the season was the nomination of Maria Bakalova for her role in the sequel to Borat , but Amazon Prime also appears among the nominees with a film that shows the obstacles that people who have hearing problems must face, a story based on the real encounter between Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X and Sam Cooke and the documentary about a woman who has been trying to get her husband out of prison for more than 20 years.

Greyhound / Nominations: Best Sound

HBO made it to the Oscars list thanks to Collective , the documentary about the tragic fire at Club Bucharest in 2015, as well as Emma , the Anya Taylor-Joy film that is inspired by Jane Austen of the same name.

Collective / Nominations: Best Foreign Film, Best Documentary
Emma / Nominations: Best Costume Design, Best Makeup

Of all the streaming platforms, Netflix is already the big winner with a long list of nominated films and documentaries. The streaming giant has the only Latin film among the recognized titles this year , in addition to the story behind Citizen Kane , Chadwick Boseman's last film before he died, a documentary about a wise octopus, several stories inspired by real cases and to a film that is also nominated for the Razzie 2021.
