Increased On Line Traffic Through Forum Marketing

By posting to blogs and forums you can increase on line traffic to your site by targeting the group that accurately fits your niche. By searching for groups and forums in your niche area, you can find highly targeted readers (read "customers").

When you post to the group, you will include a signature line with your website address. Readers who like what you have written will follow your link to your site to find out more about you. In this way, you signature line increases on line traffic to you site and increases your readership. You will be seen as an expert and gain credibility.

First, develop your signature line. The format will vary with the subject area you are posting in. Be sure to read the guidelines of the forum or blog before you post.

I keep a file of the url's of the forums that I frequent with an acceptable signature line for each. This way, I only have to read the guidelines once, and I will always be sure that I am using the proper form. Some forums only let you post your name and website address. Others allow a small information blurb.

One note on posting to blogs. Please respect the blog owner and only post comments that are on subject and helpful. As a blogger myself, I have to spend too much time deleting spam posts, many of which are disgusting in nature to say the least. Many blog owners now use a program format that requires approval before the comment will become active to help prevent such posts.

Next read the forums and look for frequently asked questions. You can answer in a friendly way, offering advice only (no sales messages!). Remember, your goal here is to be helpful, be seen as an expert, and be friendly enough that the reader feels like he knows you. He will then take the next step and check out your website, like one friend visits another. Increased on line traffic for you and help for your reader- a win-win for all.

If you don't know the answer to the questions, you can either not post, or research the question and post a well balanced answer. Another ploy would be to gather url's of several sites that discuss the issue. Post an informative article on your own site, then give the reader your url as well as the others. Of course, all of the sites should be quality content and you will aim to make site the best of the group.

While you are cruising the forums, keep a file of frequently asked questions. These will be good subjects for articles, newsletters or perhaps for a future product.

Your goal is to increase on line traffic to your site, therefore you want to choose forums that are busy. Choose threads that are currently active (check the dates of the last posts). There is no point in responding to a question asked months ago. A lack of current responses indicates that this thread is not being read.

With online communities and forums you can build a reputation and trust. Be friendly and helpful. When you help someone, they feel the need to return the favor. The only way they have of helping you is to become your customer. And people like to buy from companies that they consider to be helpful and friendly. Don't be afraid to give away your advice for free, it will be returned to you many times over.

I read a report a while back about making money with forum postings. It inspired me to try forum posting. I spend about an hour the first night posting to 3 forums and made my first sale 2 days later from those postings. Needless to say, I have increased my activity in this area and plan to use it even more in the future. A bonus of this is that you also get a free link to your site. Because of the way that blogs are archived, I have found that some of my blog posts have resulted in excellent links back to my site, raising my PR with Google and resulting in even more increased on line traffic to my site.
