Singer of Eurovision Winners Maneskin Asked About Suggested Drug Use

Damiano David from the Italian band said he did not take drugs and refuted the idea he was taking cocaine.

Maneskin took the top prize with Zitti e buoni scoring 524 points, ahead of French entry Voila by Barbara Pravi and Gjon’s Tears’ song Tout l’Univers which came third.

When asked about the incident during a press conference, Damiano said: “Thomas [guitarist Thomas Raggi] broke a glass … I don’t use drugs, please guys, do not say that.

'Message of hope'
Victoria de Angelis of Maneskin told the press conference the win was an important boost for Italy, one of the European countries worst hit by Covid-19.

“This is a message of hope after this hard year we’ve been through,” she said. https://peirce.instructure.com/eportfolios/28519/Home/Guarda_The_Conjuring__Per_Ordine_Del_Diavolo_2021__Streaming_ITA__Film_Completo_HD_

Maneskin's rock song is unlike the kitschy pop Eurovision is known for, but their singer said their popularity showed the contest also looks at musical quality.

“That prize shows that this is not [a] cheesy event. This is a musical event,” Damiano David told journalists.

Italy was the favourite with bookmakers and fans before the contest. Eurovision blogger William Lee Adams said its “punch in your face” song seemed the perfect anthem for European fans who have been stuck in lockdown.

“After this past year where we've been trapped at home I think a lot of people want that feeling of being at a party and that's what they're giving,” he said.

A limited audience of 3,500 attended the concert venue in Rotterdam to watch the performances after undergoing stringent testing for Covid-19.

Because of the travel restrictions most fans present were Dutch and they missed the usually international ambiance of the festival.

“What I don't really like is that there are no international persons here. Because it's really the once in the year that you meet up with all your international friends,” Dutch fan Patrick, who did not give his last name, told Reuters outside the venue.

Despite the precautions, several Covid-19 infections were reported during rehearsals and the semi-finals.

Iceland's entry Dadi og Gagnamagnid were not able to perform live during the finals, after a band member tested positive for Covid-19. The 2019 winner Duncan Laurence also tested positive. For both performances the organisation used pre-recorded back-up versions of the songs.

Most Eurovision fans outside the Netherlands watched from home, and many reached out to friends and online communities to celebrate the event.

The Netherlands hosted the 65th edition of the contest, which draws a television audience of about 200 million, after Dutch singer-songwriter Duncan Laurence won the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv with the song “Arcade”. – Additional reporting: Reuters

Eurovision: Lead singer of winners Maneskin denies drug use claims after viral footage circulates

The lead singer of Eurovision winners Maneskin has denied suggestions he was taking drugs during the broadcast.

Damiano David from the Italian band said he did not take drugs and refuted the idea he was taking cocaine.

The singer was caught on camera bending down during the broadcast https://peirce.instructure.com/eportfolios/30458/Home/Guarda_A_Quiet_Place_II__Streaming_ITA__Film_Completo_HD

It comes after footage began circulating online showing Maneskin singer Damiano David bending towards the table leading many to speculate that he was using cocaine.

Maneskin took the top prize with Zitti e buoni scoring 524 points, ahead of French entry Voila by Barbara Pravi and Gjon’s Tears’ song Tout l’Univers which came third.

When asked about the incident during a press conference, Damiano said: “Thomas (guitarist Thomas Raggi) broke a glass … I don’t use drugs, please guys, do not say that.

“Don’t say that really. No cocaine please, do not say that.”

The band then posted a statement on their Instagram stories saying: ‘We are really shocked about what some people are saying Damiano doing drugs.

‘We really are against drugs and we never used cocaine. We are ready to get tested, cause we have nothing to hide. We are here to play music and we are so happy about our Eurovision win and we wanna thank everyone for supporting us.’  ‘Rock ‘n Roll never dies. We love you,’

Italy's band, Maneskin, wins Eurovision, Israel's Eden Alene finishes 17th

Alene pulled off a polished, flawless performance of "Set Me Free," which she sang with charm, personality and high energy. https://peirce.instructure.com/eportfolios/32971/Home/Guarda_Spiral__Leredit_di_Saw_2021_Streaming_Ita_Alta_Definizione_gratis

Eden Alene, Israel's contestant in the Eurovision finals, was a graceful also-ran as Italy's Måneskin won the international song contest in Rotterdam on Saturday night, with the hard-rocking song, "Zitti E Buoni." Israel finished 17th out of the 26 finalists, with 93 points, 73 from the jury and 20 from the public.
As a point of comparison, Kobi Marimi, Israel's 2019 contestant, came in 23rd in the finals, with 35 points.

Just as she did in the semifinals on Tuesday night, Alene pulled off a polished, flawless performance of "Set Me Free," which she sang with charm, personality and high energy and once again she managed to hit the highest note ever sung at Eurovision, the B6 whistle.
Israeli television presenter Lucy Ayoub announced that Switzerland got the 12-points of the Israeli jury.
After the winner was announced, social media lit up with a video clip in which Maneskin's front-man Damiano David appeared to sniff something off the table he was sitting behind, just before his group's victory was announced, presumably a line of cocaine. Some called for the prize to be taken away from the group due to his assumed drug use.
While some fans worried that Alene's would not even make it into the final as a result of backlash against Israel because of the war with Gaza thst just ended in a ceasefire on Friday, she drew cheers from the crowd of 3,500 in the auditorium, smaller than usual due to the pandemic, which forced the cancellation of the 2020 song contest.
The previous contest was held in Tel Aviv in 2019, following Netta Barzilai's win in 2018. Duncan Laurence of the Netherlands, the 2019 winner, just tested positive for COVID-19 and was not able to perform live at the finals. But he sang his new song, "Stars," in a prerecorded video clip.

On May 19, a member of the Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið, which was among the favorites, tested positive for COVID-19. Although the rest of the group tested negative, they decided not to perform live without the infected performer. The group was voted through to the finals, even though they did not perform in the semis and their song "10 Years" was shown in their rehearsal performance clip in the finals.
One of the highlights of the broadcast was former winners from past years performing live on rooftops all over Rotterdam.
Alene kept her cool during the long year of waiting for the 2021 Eurovision to take place, performing on her balcony, recording more songs and making commercials. She received death threats and calls that she be kicked out of the contest from protesters during the last week, due to the political situation, and faced it all with poise. It is possible to speculate that she would have received a higher score were it not for the conflict with Gaza, but she certainly proved she is an international star and she will be welcomed home with open arms from an Israeli public she made proud.

Rock Band Maneskin Wins Eurovision Song Contest For Italy

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Move over sequins, disco beats and power ballads. A four-piece band of Italian rockers won the Eurovision Song Contest in the early hours of Sunday.

The music festival was cancelled last year amid the global pandemic but the event in Rotterdam's Ahoy arena with its regime of testing and strict hygiene protocols was seen as a step toward a post-COVID-19 return to live entertainment.

Maneskin's win was only Italy's third victory in the immensely popular contest and the first since Toto Cutugno took the honor in 1990.

Italy, the bookmakers' favorite, trailed Switzerland, France and Malta after the national juries delivered their votes but were propelled to victory by votes from the viewing public.

A crowd of 3,500 fans, who all tested negative for the coronavirus, watched the finalists perform live.

Maneskin is Danish for moonlight, a tribute to the home country of bassist Victoria. The band won with a total of 529 points from second-placed France. Switzerland, which led after national juries had voted, finished third.

United Kingdom singer James Newman's song, "Embers," failed to ignite any love at all and did not score a single point, finishing last, just as the U.K. did at the previous Eurovision two years ago.

U.S. rapper Flo Rida didn't manage to translate his star power into points for tiny San Marino's entry that was sung by Senhit. They finished with just 50 points.

For lovers of kitsch, German singer Jendrik played a sparkling ukulele and danced with a woman dressed in a giant hand costume optimistically showing the victory sign. He finished close to last.

Lithuanian band The Roop danced in bright yellow costumes in a tongue-in-cheek homage to 1980s synth pop.

Pravi's song. "Voilà," was a restrained ballad, but there was still plenty of the over-the-top spectacle that has become Eurovision's trademark.

Norwegian singer Andreas Haukeland, whose stage name TIX is a reference to growing up with Tourette syndrome, sang "Fallen Angel" in a pair of giant white wings while chained to four prancing devils.

At the other end of the spectrum — Finland's hard-rocking Blind Channel played their song "Dark Side" amid bursts of pyrotechnics and Ukraine's Go_A performed surrounded by skeletal white trees.

Ahead of the show, crowds gathered outside the arena in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. Drag queens mingled with families as a man in a gold suit waited to get into the venue.

The popular Icelandic band Dadi og Gagnamagnid, known for its kitsch dance moves and green leisurewear costumes, could not perform live because one member tested positive for the virus earlier in the week. Instead, viewers saw a recording of one of the band's dress rehearsals.

"The point was to go and actually experience how it was to compete in Eurovision, and that's just really not happening," lead singer Dadi Freyr said from isolation in Rotterdam.

While the entertainment world has changed in the pandemic, the Eurovision final formula familiar to its worldwide legion of fans has not. The event was hosted as usual by the last winner, the Netherlands, except that it won in 2019.

Milo Mateo and Carlo Sossa, wearing matching sequin-covered hats and draped in Italian flags, came from Italy for the show and were hoping for a Maneskin victory since that would bring next year's contest to Italy.

"If we win, it will be very, very nice, because the next year will be in Italy. That&
