Calling the name Charlie's Angels, a brand intellectual property created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts which first aired in the United States TV series in 1976-1981 is not far from the story of female spies carrying out secret missions full of intrigue. The modern version of the big screen film which was first released in 2000, with famous Hollywood stars in the figures of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymoore and Lucy Liu replacing the cast of the first generation Angels trio, Farrah Fawcett , Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith were also present to add the impression of an action film bombastic which strengthens the strength of the female characters in the film.
In the same spirit, Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures are back to renewing the story of the angels in the follow-up film Charlie's Angels, which now stars a trio of young actresses Kristen Stewart , Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott and will be shown in all Indonesian theaters on November 14, 2019.
Elena (Naomi Scott) did not think that her intention was to complain about a crucial problem with Calisto's products , the clean energy source she developed was considered to be the wind of the past by her bosses, Fleming (Nat Faxon) and Brock (Sam Claflin) . In order to prevent many victims from occurring, Elena also intends to become a whistleblower with the help of a secret organization that houses the Angels. With great difficulty, a pair of angels Jane (Ella Balinska) and Sabina (Kristen Stewart) save Elena from the pursuit of a taciturn man Holdak (Jonathan Tucker)
Elena is also included in the protection of angels led by Bosley (Elizabeth Banks) as well as being an informant to track down the whereabouts of several Calisto prototypes that suddenly disappeared and are suspected of being sold on the black market as dangerous weapons of mass destruction. Charlie's Angels takes action to prevent bad things from happening in the world.
Opening the film by showing the charm of Kristen Stewart in acting undercover and seducing a leader of the villain as if promising a spy action film that will show a lot of intrigue and action scenes involving angels. It is not wrong, because the action scenes in this film are very abundant, while the intrigue is relatively ordinary.

Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect 3), who directed this film and wrote a script based on a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and The Beast, Hercules) and David Auburn, did not have much experience directing films, especially action films like Charlie's Angels . Banks's direction, especially in action scenes, is less biting due to the many jump cuts that are too fast that are confusing to the head. Framing camera and blocking becomes a problem disturbing scene due to lack of wideshot when the action scenes.

From the cinematography side, the film is actually quite beautiful showing several locations, including the time in Hamburg with a very neat and thrilling car chase scene. Cinematographer Bill Pope, who has experience setting up cameras in The Matrix and Spider-Man 2 films, shows his extraordinary skills in this film. It seems that the factor of minimizing the budget and the stunt scenes has resulted in many action scenes using the jump cut editing technique by the editor, Alan Other departments such as arts, sound, music, fashion and make-up have practically no significant problems.

However, Banks can be said to be quite successful in characterizing the players. Sabina, played by Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Personal Shopper), becomes an eccentric character and feels solid when she is side by side with Jane the tough angels belonging to newcomer, Ella Balinska. Meanwhile, Naomi Scott (Aladdin, Power Rangers) is quite good at playing a genius who is caught in a complicated case.
The three main characters are supported by several other characters such as the Bosleys, who in this film version become worthy of a rank and are the handlers or supervisors of the angels. The main Bosleys in the film are played by the director, Elizabeth Banks (Brightburn, Slither), Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Blood Diamond) and legendary actor Patrick Stewart (X-Men, Star Trek: First Contact). The three of them performed quite well but were unable to steal the attention like Jonathan Tucker (The Ruins, Virgin Suicides) as a cruel and cold Holdak.
The other supporting characters Nat Faxon (The Way Way Back, Bad Teacher) , Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny) and Sam Claflin ( Adrift, Me Before You ) are unfortunately not given many opportunities due to the lack of screentime. .
The scroll of the plot in the script written by Elizabeth Banks herself actually flows smoothly, until it enters the third act of the film where the film feels difficult to unravel the layers of twists and secrets that were plotted in the previous two acts. Another crucial problem in the script is the overly nagging dialogue content with Sabina's more crisp one liner jokes .
The modern era Charlie's Angels , which returns to showcase tough women who are full of confidence in fighting crime, has nothing new to offer other than new characters played by energetic and charming young celebrities. Its potentially interesting plot is plagued by halting mysteries and less than appealing direction. Even so, this film has interesting and varied characters in the form of a tough and sexy Jane, a beautiful and eccentric Sabina and a clever and adorable Elena who makes Charlie's Angels filmstill worth seeing just to see the Angels in action.
For the record, don't miss the mid credit scenes in the film, which features many cameos from actresses and other well-known figures.
