American Sniper Review: The Dilemma Story of the American Sniper Legend

American Sniper tells of a sniper named Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) who becomes the pride of the country during the battle in the Middle East. At first, Kyle was a man who worked as a rodeo cowboy. One basic trait that prompted Kyle to become interested in joining an American SEAL troop was his desire to protect the people he loved. After 9/11 in New York, he decided to join military training and was then assigned to Iraq.

Kyle has a girlfriend named Taya Renae (Sienna Miller) whom she marries before she goes on duty. Of course, there is always a concern for the wife who is left behind in war, especially if the two do not meet again. Anytime death can pick up Kyle who is struggling with a rifle in his arm.

But Kyle was lucky enough to take on his first assignment. He was considered very good at carrying out his duties so that he was dubbed a legend. Experiencing what happens on the battlefield doesn't scare Kyle, instead, he wants to stay there protecting his comrades. He feels very responsible if his team fails to carry out the mission. Meanwhile, his wife thinks Kyle is too obsessed with his profession and does not pay attention to his own family. Kyle argued that what he was doing was not just for his own family, but the whole of the people in his country.

As a skilled sniper on the battlefield, Kyle becomes the terrorist's biggest fugitive as his enemy. Kyle became one of the most wanted soldiers and even made his head into a contest with a value of $ 100,000. It seems that Kyle also has a nemesis who is also a sniper from a terrorist group, a former sniper athlete in the Olympics.

Drama and War Action That Is Very 'American'

When it comes to the theme of war, of course, what the audience hopes for is the tension of the shooting action of the war soldiers. Besides that, usually, the film will convey a lot of moral messages from the suffering of war, but in contrast to American Sniper prefers the personal scope of Chris Kyle as a sniper and also a nationalist. The American-centric impression is very strong in this film directed by Clint Eastwood.

It looks like the production team is directing a plot that tells of the psychic pressure of Chris Kyle, but still doesn't want to leave the elements of war action in it. So that the dialogue drama and shooting action are put in a balanced composition. Good shooting is one of the keys to the success of the film. Clint Eastwood brings a cinematic feel to life from a battlefield but with stable shooting so not much detail is lost. It is different if he applies a chase recording style and a lot of close-ups, which removes a lot of detail in the image. This is especially so because many shots are taken from the sniper's point of view. ToneThe colors on the film support the war film set in the Middle East region as well as the depiction of the harshness of the battlefield. For sound effects, the explosions of the shots are quite natural and trigger adrenaline.

The actors and actresses in the film seem to exert their emotions and totality. It's just that the storyline makes it seem monotonous and less climax. Chris Kyle's character doesn't seem to have any weaknesses or difficulties in carrying out his duties. Although it cannot be denied that this film is an adoption of a book entitled   "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History," which was written by Chris Kyle himself. American Sniper is clear enough to portray a war movie character in the modern era.

It should be noted that this film certainly contains violent scenes which are quite sadistic, accompanied by some sensual scenes. For domestic, we can categorize this film as an adult treat even though the original rating of this film was for 'Youth.'

This film is one of the films that won many nominations at several world film festivals including the Oscar at the Academy Award. Unfortunately, American Sniper only won the trophy for the category "Best Sound Editing." Maybe because this film is too "American" so that it is more popular in the home country, but not globally. American Sniper will debut on the Indonesian cinema screens starting tomorrow, February 28, 2015.

The story of Chris Kyle, who was appointed as an American Sniper film

The American Sniper film is an adaptation of the true story of a Texas sniper, Chris Kyle. Kyle's story was adopted because of his success in shooting 160 Iraqis who were a threat with the right target.
Before being made into a film, Kyle had recorded his own story under the title American Sniper. Then in 2015, director Clint Eastwood lifted Kyle's story into a film of the same name. In the film, the figure of Kyle is played by Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper.
Quoted from Time, Chris Kyle is the son of a church deacon and Sunday school teacher. Since childhood, he has been fond of hunting with his father and brother. Then, he went to college while working as a farm laborer.
In 1999, Kyle made it to the SEAL, an elite special operations unit. After undergoing various processes, Kyle was selected and trained as a sniper. During his 10 years military career, he served four battles in Iraq.
Kyle's name has grown in popularity since his success when he shot 160 Iraqis who were deemed a threat. At that time, Kyle received a mission to save a fellow American soldier through his role as a sniper.

Kyle's success made him considered a Legend among soldiers. He also managed to get two Silver Star awards and five Bronze Star awards.

Not only known in the American military, but Kyle's abilities also made him known as the Al-Shaitan Ramada or the Devil Ramadi by his enemies.
Kyle's enemies also offered a reward of 20 thousand United States dollars for Kyle's head. After a long time, the enemy increased the reward to 80 thousand US dollars. They spread Kyle's traits, one of which is the cross tattoo on the arm.
Quoted from Biography, Kyle left the military in 2009. He also made a book about his life story entitled American Sniper. Kyle also launched the FITCO Cares Foundation, a non-profit group that supplies fitness equipment to war-injured veterans.
Kyle's life ended tragically in 2013. He and his partner, Chad Littlefield, were shot by Eddie Ray Routh, a former Marine with PTSD. In 2014, the book written by Kyle was turned into a film by Clint Eastwood. This film has received several nominations and awards.
