RCFE Continuing Education - Future Changes Coming Soon

Well, it is amazing what a few months can do to change an industry forever. In the past the worst thing Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) had to deal with is the seasonal flu and MRSA. Now after the Coronavirus has just about changed our country forever, it has spared no expense on turning the RCFE Industry upside down. Indeed, it may never be the same again.

With all the deaths across the country in long-term care facilities, old folks' homes, and RCFEs it was if our senior population was hit with a category 6 Super Typhoon from China, only this is one super storm no one saw coming until it was too late. Too late for many of our most vulnerable. Although California wasn't hit quite as hard as the care facilities for the elderly in New York or Washington State, we were hit pretty hard.

Even facilities with well-trained and competent staff saw the coronavirus sneak into their locations infecting residents and staff alike. Nurses and staff have been adjusting to the new norm and all the new protocols. Throughout the coronavirus crisis they've been wearing protective gear and doing their best to stop the spread. Often, when an elderly senior with comorbities gets the virus it's a death sentence.

You can bet there will be new BMPs or best management practices introduced into the industry and more requirements mandated by the State of California. Stringent regulations have already been proposed by law-makers in the California Legislature. Some of these politicians have actually lost family members who were in rest homes to the virus. More regulation means more rules that will affect the operation of RCFEs and therefore require more ongoing education as well.

Now is a very good time to catch up on the new RCFE Continuing Education information. It's important to know what's happening and what will be expected of you. The RCFE Continuing Education program for licensing is the State of California's way of addressing such issues. This mechanism is in place to serve the needs and safety of the elderly in our care.
