If the teachers opinion disagrees with your own intuition

Is he/she open to accept an opinion different to his/her or does he/she believes that his/her own view is an infallible dogma? Remember that no one knows better what is best for you than your own soul. If the teacher's opinion disagrees with your own intuition, follow your own intuition. A true teacher will respect your choice without putting you down or even, indirectly, threatening you (to exclude you from future meetings, or that your spiritual path will be destroyed etc...).

Do you give yourself the space for your intuition to be heard, even to yourself? Or do you quiet it down, before it even speaks, for fear of disapproval from your teacher? Are you putting the teacher on a pedestal, because he/she has psychic abilities that you do not possess? Remember that psychic information may or may not be the guide to the truth. Love always is.

Do you blindly follow your teacher's guidance or do you respectfully hear it, checking if it feels true to you, before following it? Remember, our path is our own responsibility. We may hear advice, ideas, solutions from our human helpers, but it is up to us to decide and do the work.

Do the teacher/healer help you find your own strength and you own answers, or does he/she behave, as if he/she knows everything about you, keeping you thus dependent? I am fortunate to have had the experience of an excellent teacher who has the diamond wisdom to often withhold information from her clients, when she knows that they can find it for themselves. Not everything needs to be revealed, not indiscriminately.

As grow stronger and more self-sufficient, is your teacher/healer happy about this, or does he/she feel threatened, trying to keep you dependent as before? Some teachers/healers may feel wonderful in the helping role, when those around them are in need or in a weak position, but they do not feel comfortable at all, when the weak ones grow strong, perhaps even stronger than them! It may be painful for you to experience this, but you need to find the self-confidence to move forward, rather than 'shrinking' yourself to appease the teacher, to whom you may be very loyal. On the other hand, if you are a teacher/healer yourself, be prepared to see your students/clients rise even higher than you. Rejoice in it, for it means that you have succeeded as a teacher...

Is your teacher/healer willing to see you as an equal, as you progress along your path? Or does he/she tell you what to do in a patronizing way, as if you were a school pupil?

How does your teacher/healer talk about colleagues and other teachers/healers? Is he/she putting them down, is there irony and superiority in his/her words?

Does he/she have polite manners, talking with the appropriate respect we expect in our common everyday encounters? Do not forget common sense! Some behaviors, which would be considered rude, if not abusive, if acted by 'ordinary mortals' seem to be by-passed as 'humor', when done by a famous teacher with a strong aura. I have been startled to see this quite often, even in audiences of well-educated, competent people. If you feel uneasy about the way a teacher is behaving, do not doubt yourself. Even if no one else seems to complain, still, believe in yourself and your own truth. Even if you find it too hard to say 'No', remember that you think 'No'! This is very important in itself. Allow no one to control your mind.

Is the teacher/healer willing to admit a mistake? Is he/she willing to apologize? Or does he/she turn it against you, using possibly some impressive psychic or psychoanalytic explanations that would make you wrong? An example: In a group session, the teacher asks a participant to stand up and share something, as part of a self-awareness exercise. If the participant is unwilling to do this, does the teacher respect it, or does he come up with some sophisticated interpretation, about past lives or traumatized childhood about why the participant resists, thus making him wrong in front of the group and coercing him to do what the teacher wants to do?

Does the teacher/healer keep a low profile regarding himself and his achievements, letting his own work and words speak for him, or does he boast about his metaphysical capacities and, even more, his past lives? Remember: Psychic faculties do not necessarily equal spirituality. Do not get carried away by PhD titles or past life CV's! What matters is how you feel with the teacher now.

Does the teacher/healer allow the space for the voices of his audience to be heard? Or does he/she rush in, with his/her own answers to everything, projecting his/her view as superior to anyone else's? They will of course say everything that is politically correct in an Aquarian Age, but how they act is what matters. Do you feel intimidated or at ease to openly disagree with him? This is the acid test.

Remember that teachers/healers are humans and make mistakes, as all humans. It is also human and easy to get carried away by ego, especially in this profession, as teachers only really associate with their clients, who are normally vulnerable people, in need of help. Clients are rather unlikely to challenge them, instead they often revere them. More often than not, even if clients are dissatisfied, they will either conceal it, or leave without a word. So, without external feedback, a true teacher must constantly watch out and scrutinize himself for possible mistakes, otherwise it is easy, for anyone in his place, to slide into arrogance. The key of discernment here is his reaction to your possible expression of dissatisfaction, even if it is very mild. Will he care about it? Will he encourage you to express more or will he rush to water it down or deny it? Does he care about you? This is something only your heart can tell.

This is what we all need the most. To know that others care, that others feel love and compassion for us. It is not imperative for a teacher/healer to always have the right thing to say, the right explanation, the right solution. It doesn't matter if something he says is a little awkward at times. It doesn't matter if he is at loss of words at times. The client wishes to know that his teacher cares, that he is there with him, for him and this is what matters.
