Is it bad to respond to recruiters/go through interviews

I have been getting some pings on linkedin over the past couple months about open positions. I enjoy my current position, but I know I am underpaid, so I am very casually exploring around for something new that really interests me. Twice this month I've gone all the way through the interview process then turned down the job at the very end because it wasn't the perfect position (commute too far, team too big/small, still using Classic, etc...)

I've been feeling a bit guilty about wasting the recruiter's time, and concerned I may be burning bridges with them in the event I start actively wanting to switch. Does anyone share these concerns or have input?

This isn't strictly salesforce related but I think this particular field probably gets faced with this problem more frequently than usual.
