Lupine is the name of Arsène Lupine, a fictional character created in 1905 by writer Maurice Leblanc. Ultimately, Lupine became the inspiration for the Netflix show of the same name, although it did not describe the character Arsène Lupine himself.

But in Lupine , Arsène Lupine became the inspiration for Assane Diop (Omar Sy), a man who, with his father, Babakar Diop (Fargass Assandé), was an immigrant from Senegal who lived in France in search of a better life. His father is a fan of novels, as well as Assane, who since childhood enjoyed reading all the stories and adventures of Arsène Lupine. One time Babakar was accused of stealing jewelry by his employer, Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) and after being found guilty and locked up in prison, he committed suicide. More than twenty years have passed and now Assane, together with his knowledge from the novel Lupine, is trying to dig up the truth about his father's death.

Physically himself, Assane is a very striking person. He was stocky and very tall, and it wasn't difficult to tell him where he was in the crowd. But here he managed to blend in. Like Ezio Auditore from the Assassin's Creed game series , Assane easily eliminates the presence of the public with all its cunning and clever guises, and that is one of the reasons the Lupine series is so easy for us to love, because we are always amazed by how this series always delivers something. which is very exciting.

One of the reasons I love Lupine and other stories about theft is how the creativity of the characters in it can hypnotize us and also tempt us to find out how they did it. Here, we are always presented with a lot of actions from Assane who have a myriad of plans for every situation he faces and they never go bad. Seeing how he lurks, arranges every move, executes the plans he has devised to trick the authorities and the stolen party into escaping as far as possible always makes me excited and remains hooked because I also wonder how he can do it.

The first season of Lupine is only 5 episodes with each episode usually running around 40 to 50 minutes, but George Kay and François Uzan skillfully make each of these episodes very weighty and always have a very good story, very riveting action and great anticipation. always built higher than before. Each episode never seems to be a waste of time or a rush. His tempo is very balanced to tell a really flexible narrative, considering that Lupin's narrative has a high enough risk.

One episode from him always has a lot of information for the audience, and also each episode must always try to balance a story that keeps on branching out. Not only from how the episode progresses the more characters appear, but each episode also has many different periods of time. We can be in the present, then the next scene can immediately throw us into the past. This time game if not told carefully can ruin the story and make it messy, but not here. George Kay and François Uzan perfectly manage to tell the whole story without sacrificing anything, which ultimately makes the experience of watching this series always end with a satisfying and curious taste.

Another thing that makes Lupine always interesting is how they tell the characters in them. Assane's theft is not just an adrenaline rush, but he has a personal mission. He is someone on a mission of revenge and will stop at nothing. But he's not a bad person. Despite how intimidating his character is, he is a kind person with a gentle side. Maybe the action isn't right, but we can't help but support the action. Omar Sy plays Assane with a very dynamic nature, on the one hand he can play Assane as a savage, agile and cunning person but on the other hand he can play that character softly, calmly and soothingly.
