Nintendo just revealed a brand new tournament for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which will have players from all over North America competing for bragging rights and the highly coveted 2,500 My Nintendo Gold Points. The first Mario Kart North American Open for 2021 will commence on January 29th at 12 PM PT until January 31st at 6 PM PT.
For players interested in joining the event, it is worth noting that the tournament is only available for legal residents of the US and Canada, ages 13 and above, and Mexico, who are 18 and above. Additionally, players must own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, has access to fast internet, and an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. Players who place in the top eight of the tournament each day will receive the 2,500 My Nintendo Gold Points. Interested players can participate in the Mario Kart North American Open January 2021 competition by entering the following codes:
The top eight racers will be selected based on the number of points accumulated in up to 24 races during a specific tournament day. Once the player qualifies on the top 8, they won't have to do anything to claim their My Nintendo Gold Coins, given that it will be automatically added to their Nintendo Accounts.
It is worth noting that players should ensure that their Nintendo Accounts are properly linked to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to avoid issues. Although the races' intensity will be difficult to predict, players should expect competition to be fierce. Last August, Nintendo hosted another Mario Kart 8 competition, and the tournament was at 150 cc. This year's tournament will likely be the same, so players should expect a fast-paced race.
Nintendo is a company that seems to always put a smile on the faces of its fans with creations like party game Mario Kart and experimental ideas like the Nintendo LABO. One particular fan recently decided to show off said fandom by coming up with an idea that seems like something unusual enough that Nintendo itself would come up with; an exercise bike to play Mario Kart.
YouTuber mechachoi (Mike Choi) recently uploaded a video of a rather creation that he is calling the LABO Fit Adventure Kart. The video itself mixes comedy and engineering creativity to create a real exercise machine that works with playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While LABO seems to have taken a back seat for Nintendo for now, as nothing new has released for some time, Choi's creation would be unique enough to breathe new life into LABO if Nintendo were ever to announce it.
In the Nintendo Direct-like video, Choi shows off the LABO Fit Adventure Kart in action and then explains how it works. The kit is built up of three main components. The first part is the Bike-Con, which is built to look like a LABO cardboard piece, though it's actually just an exercise bike that is surrounded by cardboard. However, there are sensors that read the speed of the movement of the pedaling, which allows for Mario Kart 8 to know if the player is accelerating. The second piece is from Ring Fit Adventure, a game that sold well in 2020. The Ring-Con from the game is used as a wheel for driving in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as well as squeezing for the usage of items in-game like Shells and Bananas.
