Fall Guys has seen massive success since launching on PS4 and PC last summer, especially since it was available for free for subscribers of PlayStation Plus. The multiplayer battle royale party game is in the middle of its third season, and it's appropriately winter-themed. Mediatonic is about to release a season 3.5 update very soon and one of the features that it's adding comes straight from Super Mario 64... kind of.
One of Super Mario 64's first stages that players can jump inside of via a picture frame is called Cool Cool Mountain. It's a snowy area with slippery slides, rickety bridges, snowmen, and even an adorable baby penguin. For the second objective in the stage, Mario is tasked with escorting the baby penguin to its worried mother by carrying it and protecting it from harm. However, this baby penguin has been a meme for fans of the old-school platformer as some players find enjoyment in throwing the penguin off the edge of the stage, just for the giggles essentially.
And in the update that's coming to Fall Guys, the developers are adding some penguins named Bert, Bort, and Bart to various sections of the stages. In a short clip posted on the Fall Guys Twitter account, it shows a player taking the penguin and throwing it off the edge of the map, Super Mario 64 style.
Mediatonic isn't afraid to break the fourth wall a bit when it comes to other video game franchises. There have been multiple Fall Guys outfits and skins to come from other gaming properties, such as a Sonic the Hedgehog costume and Doom crossover skins.
The Fall Guys Twitter account is very active, with community manager Oliver Hindle leading the charge there. Earlier today, the official Twitter account responded to a tweet from Xbox talking about the Xbox Games Pass, and this small interaction got fans hyped for a potential Xbox release. Ultimately, it seems like that isn't going to be the case, as Hindle returned to the platform to shut the idea down.
Fall Guys is exclusive to PC and PlayStation consoles, so even during the height of its popularity those on Xbox, Stadia, or Switch were unable to take part. This has been a bit of a sore spot for much of the community, as the game seems like it would be great on other consoles and there is plenty of demand for it already.
The post from Xbox UK prompted followers to comment in order to get a recommendation for Xbox Games Pass, meant mostly as a fun way for Xbox to interact with its fans. When the official Fall Guys twitter account responded with a simple "Can I play?", the comments section erupted with hopeful fans wanting to see the game ported to Xbox as well.
When pushed on why it made that comment on the Xbox post, the official Fall Guys account simply said it just wanted to see what game it would get. This disappointed some fans but is completely in line with the type of casual posts that usually come from this account. It should be said that this doesn't necessarily rule out the potential for Fall Guys on Xbox, but it seem less likely that this was a tease in any way.
